Diary entry Dear Diary,
It is only the 5th of May, 1864. I am only 17 years old. My hopes are to become a Congressman. I am living with my Mother while Father is fighting in the battlefields. Our house is a lovely place to be. We have a garden with roses and sunflowers. We are part of the Union. We live in Boston, Massachusetts. We are in need of money. If we do not pay for our taxes soon, I will have to go fight in the army. Mother does not want me to fight in a savage war. She believes my education is more important. My sisters do not want me to leave because they’ll need me to help them with crops and chores. Father says I must fight. He says that I can have an education while being in the army. Father is taking me to a battlefield. He says I’m prepared to go fight in the war. This may be the last time I write in my journal. Mother, Sisters, or Father, if any of you find this, I just want you to know that I love you all. Sincerely, Stefan Salvatore |
