Significant leaders
Top: Abraham Lincoln- Lincoln led the United States through the Civil War. It was the bloodiest war and greatest moral, constitutional and political crisis. Lincoln preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the economy.
Bottom: Joseph E. Johnston- Johnston was a career U.S Army officer. He served with distinction in the Mexican-American Civil War and Seminole War. He was also one of the most senior general officers in the Confederate States during the American Civil War in 1862. He entered the American Civil War as one of the senior officers and was appointed as full general. He won victory at the First Battle of Bull Run (Manassas) on July of 1861. Johnson was also involved in the Battle of Seven Pines in June of 1862. He was severely wounded in that battle. Johnston later surrendered to General William T. Sherman in North Carolina in April of 1865.
Top Middle : Robert E. Lee- Lee was an American soldier who was best-known for commanding the Confederate Army of of Northern Virginia in the American Civil War from 1862. Lee later surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant in 1865.
Bottom Middle: William T. Sherman- Sherman was an American soldier,businessman,educator and author. He served as general in the Union Army during the American Civil War in 1862.
Top Far Right: George McClellan- McClellan was the major general for the Union during the American Civil War. He was also nominated for Democratic President in 1864. He later served as Governor of New Jersey.
Bottom Far right: Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson- Jackson was a Confederate general during the American Civil War. He was the best-known commander after General Robert Lee.
