WAS THE CIVIL WAR INEVITABLE? IF SO, HAS IT BEEN WORTH ITS COST?
The Civil War was inevitable, for example the Compromise of 1850 could have prevented war. The South and North had different views on slavery and because of this they argued that in the Compromise of 1850 it states that all men are equal. The South believed that everyone was created equally except blacks. On the other hand North believed that the Declaration also included blacks. Even though the Compromise of 1850 was meant to help prevent war, it created more conflict. As you can see war could have been avoided if the North and South would have just agreed that everyone is created equally and get rid of slavery once and for all. Additionally the war was worth it because if it was not for the war the slaves who were suffering would probably still be held against their will. Due to the Civil War four million slaves got their freedom. However, millions of people died, were wounded, had a psychological trauma, lingering disease, and became disabled because of amputation. It was worth it because the ones who were brave saved many lifes. In our opinion the Civil War was necessary in order to abolish slavery and help those who needed saving but the upsetting part is the amount of lifes that were taken away in order to not have to go through slavery anymore. In conclusion, we believe that the Civil War was inevitable and worth it.
